I’ve been fortunate enough to compete at shows all across the Southeast over the past few years. Each of these shows has their own unique feels; different stabling arrangements, different show ground sizes, different class offerings, different exhibitor’s events, and different towns to explore. However, ever since I moved to Nashville, TN in 2015, the hunter/jumper shows at Brownland Farm have been my favorite shows to attend.

FarmVet at Brownland Farm Horse Show

A Home Away from Home

Driving through the gates of the Brownland Farm property, you immediately notice the showground’s distinct, old-fashion feel. This ambiance is a welcome change from some of the newer, more industrial facilities being built. Dirt roads, open grass fields, wood-construction competition barns, and trees, hedges, and flowers are everywhere you look. The unique setting in historic Franklin combined with the idyllic scenery and friendly ambiance make this show grounds a peaceful haven outside the busy, bustling Nashville city scene.

What I love most about showing at Brownland is that the show invests so much time and energy into making the exhibitors feel at home. Brave spectators who wake up early for the 7:30 Hunter Derby start time are treated to coffee and pastries each Friday morning. Visitors can watch the Grand Prix from the large grass berm overlooking the jumper ring while enjoying wine, cheese, and snacks on Saturday afternoons.

But the most special event during these shows is the weekly party held at Brownland matriarch Sissy Anderton’s house. The doors to Sissy’s brick home, located near the entrance of the showgrounds, are open on Friday nights to competitors and friends of all ages. Delicious free food and a beautiful patio surrounded by string lights are more than anyone could expect from show hospitality. At Brownland Farm, its one of many traditions that keep people coming back year after year.

55 years old and still going strong, Brownland Farm is a staple of the Nashville and greater Southeast horse communities. FarmVet is proud to support such a special place in the hearts of our local friends and customers.
