September is officially here, which means one thing – fall is coming! Cooler weather, the leaves changing color, and pumpkin spice everything is just around the corner. As the show season winds down, don’t miss the opportunity to spice up your routine with your horse! We’ve listed a few fun things to try this fall to make the most of your time together.
Go For a Trail Ride
One of our favorite parts of fall is enjoying the vibrant colors of the changing leaves. What better way to appreciate the scenery than going on a trail ride? While you take in the views, trail riding is also a great way to help your horse unwind and just “be a horse”. With no confined show ring or perfect collection needed – you will both get to relax and just enjoy the time together.
Even though it’s cooling off outside, be prepared for the lingering summer insects hanging on for one last bite! This Cashel Quiet Ride Fly Mask is perfect for any trail ride to protect your horse and allow you to have a peaceful ride.
Have a Photoshoot
Many of us equestrians are guilty of staying so busy we forget to document our special moments. But the fall season brings both the time and the scenery to take a minute and snap some pictures with your horse! Maybe you had a great year in the show ring and want to include your prizes. Or, you just love your pony so much and would like a few nice pictures together. Either way, fall offers the perfect backdrop. Grab a friend that can get behind the lens and snap away, or maybe you even want to hire a professional photographer and make the most of the opportunity.

Participate in a Costume Class
If you’re heading to another show this fall, chances are there will be some sort of costume class there as well. This is such a fun activity to jump into! We play a more serious version of dress-up all year long for the show ring, but now you can let loose and have some fun! You can model the costume based on your horse’s name, your favorite movie character, a different animal, or just something silly, and have a good laugh either way!
You can get creative by adding fun colors using things like Vet Wrap to create costume parts.
Add a Little Bit of Spice to Your Grooming Routine
Quality time is a coveted love language that may get put on the back burner during the heat of the show season. But now that it’s winding down, you can make this happen with an extended grooming routine! Take that extra minute with the curry comb or even with the Electro Groom vacuum to keep their coat healthy and shiny as the weather changes. This is a love language almost all horses speak, and you might even be surprised how much you enjoy just spending time together whether you go for a ride or not! Health Check Up
And finally, fall is a great time to have your vet look over your horse and be sure they are feeling their best after the show season. It is time to update vaccines, dewormers, teeth, and maybe some other therapeutic treatments before slowing down for the winter. This will ensure they are ready to tackle the winter. You may even discuss some potential dietary updates to prepare for the cold ahead.
After a day with the vet, reward your horse with some Pumpkin Spice Kelcie’s Horse Treats!
